Los Cabos Mexico is reopening for travelers and welcoming international tourists as of June 15th 2020! This comes as a relief to travelers who are dying to get away after spending so many months in home-shelter.
We need a little vitamin sea and sun right?
Los Cabos, which includes Cabo San Lucas or San Jose Del Cabo, are great 2020 vacation destinations for outdoor adventures, water sports or relaxing at the pool at one of its many luxurious resorts or Airbnbs.
And unlike some destinations like Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, visitors do not have to be quarantined for 14 days upon arrival! So upon arrival in Los Cabos, you can head right to the beach. Woo-hoo!
Other parts of Mexico such as Cancun and Cozumel on the Caribbean side of Mexico are also reopening for travelers starting in June 2020.

What’s open to visitors in Los Cabos?
Beaches in Los Cabos are open to enjoy and including the beaches, open-air restaurants and stores. In Cabo San Lucas, all the beach side restaurants are open where you can lounge in the sand while sipping on a margarita.
Things may not be quite as busy as normal especially at night, but you’ll find plenty of activity on Medano Beach and the Marina in Cabo San Lucas. I also enjoyed some shopping in downtown Cabo.
Beaches in Los Cabos are all open and are currently closed by 6pm and this is enforced.
What precautions are businesses taking to keep visitors safe from the coronavirus in Cabo San Lucas?
There are currently strict cleaning, disinfecting and social distancing policies that have been put in place to help keep visitors as safe of possible. When you enter the restaurants, resorts and stores, your temperature is checked at the door. When eating at the restaurants, they also make sure you use hand sanitizer before entering.
According to the the Los Cabos Airport website, Mexico has put in place what is called “Clean Point” certification health and safety guidelines. Upon arrival at the airport, “Clean Point certification includes checking the temperatures, thermal imaging and filling out rick factor questionnaires upon arrival at SJD International Airport.”
Flying to Los Cabos
If you live on the West Coast, Los Cabos is a great getaway for the summer or fall. Airlines have discounted many of the flights. I purchased a trip from SFO for $287 RT. Not too bad!
I will caution you to check your flight status many times before your day of flight in case of any changes especially if on Alaska Airlines. I do not recommend flying the Alaska Airlines right now because they have been cancelling many non stop lights close to the fly date without advising their customers until the last minute. The reason they provided for the change was because their flights were not booked enough so they canceled flights. I experienced one of those cancellations 3 days before my trip and decided to rebook with American Airlines which luckily still had a great deal.
Are you excited that Los Cabos Mexico is reopening for travelers and ready to book to book your flight?
You can find some great flight deals at the moment too. $250 – $300 Round Trip is a very good deal right now with some direct flights from LAX.
I recommend using Google Flights search engine which will search the best deal for any given date between all the airlines (except Southwest Airlines which does not currently fly direct to Cabo).
And again, avoid Alaska Airlines which seem to definitely be having some organizational issues and cancelling flights last minute simply because their flights don’t have enough booked seats. Not to mention, they aren’t notifying of cancelled flights right away and I am saying this from first hand experience.
Where To Stay In Los Cabos?
You can choose from a range of Vacation Homes or Hotels. As of July, most the resorts and hotels are open and will welcome you with open arms. There a few vacation homes and condos I can recommend if desired. (Leave a comment below if you need suggestions!)
For those who want to avoid close contact with people right now, you may be better off renting a vacation home with a pool where you don’t have to worry about “social distancing.” I really enjoyed staying at this beautiful Airbnb that you can find here online: https://bit.ly/3aICIss
