The Amazing Hot Springs Of San Miguel De Allende Mexico

Imagine with me…you are in San Miguel De Allende Mexico.

You have had an exciting week in San Miguel de Allende, yet all the walking down cobble stone streets have done a number on your muscles and joints!

The solution… Go to visit one of San Miguel De Allende’s healing thermal hot springs to soothe and relax your achy body.

Imagine relaxing in warm rejuvenating water surrounded by beautiful trees and mountains.

San Miguel De Allende's Best Hot Springs La Gruta

Enter a cave where the water seems to glow and then let your mind wander as you think of all the wonderful adventures you have had in San Miguel De Allende.

Stand under a waterfall of thermal hot spring water for a massage as the water pours down onto your neck, shoulders and back.

Can you imagine such a place?

You are in La Grutta Hot Springs! La Gruta has thermal hot springs and it is just a 14 minute drive from the heart of San Miguel de Allende.

La Gruta, San Miguel De Allende Mexico

San Miguel de Allende has a handful of hot springs in the area, La Gruta being an amazing one to visit.  I found the whole experience very relaxing and the grounds were absolutely beautiful.

In this video, I give you a glimpse into my experience at La Gruta. It was my favorite experience in San Miguel De Allende. Get a tour of La Gruta in the video and see why you may want to put this on your list of things to do on your trip to San Miguel De Allende.

How much is it to enter La Gruta Hot Springs?

The price is a little over 200 pesos per person which is super reasonable.  Thats just about $10 US Dollars at the current conversion of 20 to 1.   I know similar places in the US that are $75 – $100 for a far less memorable experience. What do you have to lose by trying it?

My Review On La Gruta San Miguel De Allende

A couple things I did not get to mention in the video which may help you decide on which hot springs in the area to visit.

I thought everything was very clean including the grounds, the water quality, changing rooms and shower.

The grounds are well cared for and I really cannot imagine anything more beautiful.

While there were some pools that had more people than others, I did not find it overly crowded at all. (This was something I was initially concerned about before visiting).  It was not empty either but there is plenty of space of space and multiple pools to find your own slice of paradise.

The changing rooms and showers are pretty basic, nothing luxurious, but it’s very clean.

I arrived at 2pm which could be a great time to go if you want to avoid morning crowds. I have no idea what it is like early in the morning, but I always find I have a better time when I go to places in the later part of the day.

Children are welcome at La Gruta. For that reason, there may be moments where you hear kids playing, but overall it wasn’t a problem for me.

The “Waterfall” of Thermal Springs Water Is Amazing… but one tip….

When the “waterfall” turns on at 3pm-4pm (as shown in the video), it lets in a powerful flow of natural fresh thermal water and it feels amazing!  The cave will heat up quite quickly from the thermal water and it also helps heat up some of the connected pools.   Here is a tip…If you go towards the end of the hour… lets say 3:45 pm, you will find most people have left the cave and you may have it to yourself.

I was a little eager to experience the “waterfall” so I was there at 3pm like many others. There is a short line of people in the cave that wait their turn and everyone is pretty courteous to only spend only about a minute under the waterfall at a time. Plus, the pressure from the water is quite intense so that is really all you need.

When I left to cool off and came back for another round under the waterfall, there was hardly anyone in the cave. So, that’s a little tip for you to come back toward the end of the hour and you can get more time under the “waterfall”.

What about other hot springs in San Miguel De Allende?

There is Escondido and Mayan Baths.  I read about both, but La Gruta seemed like it would be the best fit for me. I honestly did not make it to the other two hot spring to compare because I only had time for 1, but from what I have seen at La Gruta, I am happy with my decision.

Mayan Baths is sometimes only open on the weekends, requires a reservation and is more expensive.

Escondido – I have heard mixed reviews, some good, some not so good.  I would be willing to check it out on another trip just to compare.
