Cayos Cochinos Honduras Travel Tips and Best Tour Cayos Cochinos

The “Hidden” Paradise In The Caribbean You Have To See Now While It’s Still A Hidden Gem – Cayos Cochinos, Honduras

A trip to the hidden paradise of Cayos Cochinos is an amazing day trip from Roatan or La Ceiba Honduras. The group of islands and cays that make up Cayos Cochinos is an unspoiled paradise with thriving corals and marine life protected under the Government of Honduras.

Finding a “unspolied” paradise in the world where big corporate dollars of resorts and tourism have not taken over are rare, but there are still a few rare hidden gems in the world like Cayos Cochinos.  One can only wonder, how long will it stay a hidden gem?

Cayos Cochinos is only reachable by boat with no big resorts or over development to ruin this natural treasure. It’s also a protected marine reserve with no commercial fishing allowed.  With plentiful fish and sea life, it’s a snorkeler and divers dream!  Of course tourism exists here, but not in overwhelming numbers.  We can only hope it stays that way.

I visited Cayos Cochinos this year during a 10 day trip in Roatan. I really had not planned on going to Cayos Cochinos but as I was hanging out at Puerta Azul (a lovely boutique hotel in Sandy Bay Roatan), a beautiful boat pulled up to the dock and let off some passengers that had been on a trip for the day. I overheard they were going to Cayos Cochinos the next day and I curiously asked about the trip in a conversation with the captain/owner, Antonio.

From what I heard, it sounded amazing and my love and I decided to go the following day.  I live for new amazing experiences!

The next day, our morning started at 6am as we boarded “Emily”, a beautiful boat that was spacious and comfortable for our small group of 6 people.  Thank God coffee was provided in the morning for this 6am trip! I’m a night owl and still a walking zombie until coffee. (lol)

The morning was gorgeous and the winds were in our favor. The water was incredibly smooth and glassy as we sailed away to the hidden paradise of Cayos Cochinos.

I spent most of the 40 minute ride to Cayos Cochinos lounging on the top deck.  The sun was just above the horizon and the sun rays were not yet radiating in its full glory.  It was so comfortable on the cushioned top deck that I could have fallen asleep but I couldn’t draw my attention away from the beautiful Caribbean waters.  The water was so glassy and calm that the moment almost didn’t feel real. It was as if I was staring at a painting, or better yet, that I was in one.

In that moment, I was filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience amazing experiences like this one.

The day had many unforgettable experiences yet in store.

Video is worth a million words.  It’s through my love for video and photos that I capture travel experiences to share with you. In the videos below, I take you on a relaxing video travel journey to Cayos Cochinos. Watch, enjoy and see how the rest of the day went!

How was the video? I hope by watching that video, that you got a sense of what it was like on this amazing day. Of course, as beautiful as some of the video images are, its 100x more beautiful in person.

If you want to take this same trip, I went with Blue Reef Explorers.  I highly recommend this tour company. You can contact Antonio of Blue Reef Explorers through their website here: https://bit.ly/3xWlfZK This post is not sponsored in any way, I’m just sharing my experience with you and I try to leave unbiased travel recommendations here on this blog.  By the way, if you do book with them, its always good to let Antonio at Blue Reef Explores know that Kiki of Little Birdie Travel sent you so they know I enjoyed the experience enough to recommend them!

On the tour, food, drinks, alcohol, snacks, and snorkel gear included.  The whole trip was very “first class” and the boat is fabulous, as you can see from the video. We didn’t have to plan or worry about anything for the whole day and that’s how I like to travel.

How To Visit Cayos Cochinos?

Cayos Cochinos can only be reached by boat and most trips there begin from La Ceiba on the main land of Honduras, or Roatan Honduras. Roatan has its own airport and just a 2 hour flight from Houston making Roatan an easy place to visit.

On a trip to Roatan, it’s possible to take a day trip to Cayos Cochinos.

I have also written a lot about traveling to Roatan on this blog and if you have been following me for a while, you may already know Roatan is my favorite island in the world to visit so far. It’s an amazing place to experience. I have a lot of travel experiences that I’ve shared here on this blog.
