While traveling in the last year, I have been snorkeling faithfully with full face snorkel masks. They are awesome! I will probably never go back to the traditional snorkels. I get so many questions from other snorkelers because the full face snorkels are still fairly new and people are quite curious about the ninja space looking mask that I wear to the beach LOL!
The full face snorkels just make snorkeling a lot easier for me and I like that I can breathe through my mouth and my nose. There is no more snorkel getting tangled in my hair or having to bite down on a mouthpiece like there was with the traditional snorkels.
Learning how to use the full face snorkel masks may take some getting used to on the first try but isn’t that the case with anything new?
The best way I can describe how the full face snorkels works, is by showing you. In this video below, I provide a demonstration of “How To Snorkel With Full Face Masks.” It is a tutorial and I will show you how to get started with a full face snorkel mask.
I hope this demo helps you. Let me know if you still have any questions as I will be making a Part 2 video in the near future. I would love to answer your questions.

Check out my review of my favorite snorkel mask here: Tribord Easybreath Full Face Snorkel Mask Review
Below are links to my favorite snorkel gear including the Tribord Full Face Snorkel Mask, which I have liked best out of all the brands I have tried so far.
There are some budget options out there on the market, but please do your research first! Some are cheaply made and can ruin the full face snorkel experience with leaks, poor air circulation, fogging or a bad fit.
Never compromise your safety for a poorly made mask!
So, do your homework before buying some of the knock-off brands. I know a good deal is tempting, but a well-made mask is a must for safety. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.
Aloha! I have the snorkel mask and while I love it I am still getting used to it. I live on Maui and I was wondering if you saw the article about someone who died using this type of snorkel mask? I believe there is an issue with CO2 breathing CO2 while snorkeling . I also heard that the owner of boss frog‘s snorkel shops is very down on the snorkel and I don’t know if it’s because he doesn’t want to give up his inventory of the old style. I was wondering if you’ve heard anything about these ‘Cons’ to using this mask. Mahalo! Vika
Hi Vika, I have read about the Co2 concerns and I would like to address in more detail in a later post. Not sure if I read that particular article, I will search for it….. btw What brand do you use? I always recommend the Tribord but I notice people will buy a cheaper mask on amazon and not all masks are equal. There are many knock off masks even $20 to $30 dollars and some of the knock off masks dont have as good ventilation technology as the higher quality masks. People should keep that in mind when purchasing and when analyzing the situation. Not all masks are equal in quality like anything else. As far as CO2 buildup when I am snorkeling, I have no trouble breathing with the Tribord and even a few other quality masks I have tried. On the other hand there are some masks I have sent back due to leaking and poor airflow. Quality and fit is key.
Thanks for the response, Ivory! Going out tomorrow sailing/snorkeling – can’t wait! Vika
How do you know what size to buy? I could not get the video to play.
Hi Peggy! Sorry that the video was not playing. Try this link for the video in Youtube https://youtu.be/NtGa4dLYY5Q I find that most adults wear a L/XL . Usually the brands will post a size chart to tell you how to measure your correct size.
How would you equalize your ears when you go deep? With my mask I can pinch my nose but it looks like that’s not possible with this one.
Hi Meghan. Good question. There is no way to pinch your nose to equalize. This mask is not for diving, just surface snorkeling. I take some shallow dips underwater but thats all since diving is not recommended with full face masks. That is definitely one trade off to using a full face versus traditional snorkel gear. So, if diving is your thing, stick with the traditional gear.
Thanks for your question.
