Puerto Morelos has become my favorite beach town destination in Mexico. It has a small town feel, plenty to do and see and I love that it feels less touristy than the nearby destinations such as Cancun, Tulum and Playa Del Carmen. If you can’t stand overcrowded tourist towns and want to learn about a place to visit in the Riviera Maya without the crowds, you may love Puerto Morelos. And, its just 25 minutes from Cancun or Playa Del Carmen.
It’s the kind of town you make friends with the locals and wave and say “Buenos Dias, Como Esta” everyday as you walk by those you’ve met. Good way to practice your Espanol!
A couple other reasons to love Puerto Morelos is that it is more affordable than Cancun and Playa del Carmen, safer, beautiful beaches to swim and snorkel from and it’s such a walkable town!
I returned again to Puerto Morelos in Dec into January 2021 and it felt amazing to be back!
